NSBA All American Saanen Award Program
 
I. Purpose: The purpose of the All American Award Program shall be to select and to honor annually the Saanens of the most outstanding type in each of the specified age groups:  1) All American and 2) Reserve All American.

II. Categories: There shall be six (6) age groups for does and four (4) age groups for bucks. All American Chairman has the option of combining age groups for bucks if there are less than 6 animals nominated in a given year. Ages shall be tabulated as of January 1 through December 31.
 
Does: A. Under one year
B. One year and under two, not in milk
C. One year and under two, in milk
D. Two years and under three
E. Three years and under four
F. Four years and under five 
F. Five years and over
Bucks: A. Under one year
B. One year and under two
C. Two years and under three
D. Three years and under five
D. Five year and over

If an animal is shown in two age categories, separate entries can be made for both All American Awards. However, an animal shall only be allowed to win in one of the categories above. Should an animal win in both categories entered, the owner shall have the right to choose in which category the animal obtains the win.

III. Qualifications:  To qualify for nomination, each animal must meet the requirements below:

A.  All Saanens (Purebred, American, Grade, Experimental) will be eligible for participation. There will be two divisions: 1) Purebreds and Americans 2) Grades and Experimentals.  Grades and Experimentals must be at least 50% Saanen and must meet Saanen breed standard.
B. Each animal at the time of nomination shall bear a legible tattoo.
C. Each animal should have competed in at least one official ADGA show within the age year for which he/she is being nominated and have been awarded at least one of the following, i.e., either awarded at least 1,2,3, or 4, or any combination of 1,2,3, or 4:
1. First in individual class
2. Grand Senior Champion, Reserve Grand Senior Champion, Junior Champion or Reserve Junior Champion
3. Second in individual class in an official ADGA show where more than 30 Saanens were exhibited
4. Challenge winner
D. Owned by a current paid member of the National Saanen Breeders Association, with dues paid on or before September 1st.

  IV. Application Procedure:
A. Submission of one completed Individual Nomination Form for each nominated animal.
B. Submission of three (3) photos
1. Required views are Standard Profile, Rear View of Udder and Legs, and Rump to Withers taken from above rear quarters.
2. Recommended size:  3”x5”, smaller or larger acceptable
3. Digital camera photos are acceptable.
4. No ribbons, trophies or persons in the photo. The goat shall be the main focus of the photo; the handler shall be cropped out above the shoulders in the submitted photos. 
5. Photos must be taken during the age year for which the entry is being made.
6. All American and Reserve All American winners will be retained by NSBA for use in news releases, the web page and photo album.

 

C All forms, photos, and papers to be sent to NSBA All American Chairman by November 15th of each year.
D. A $2.00 per application entry fee shall be submitted at the time of entry to help offset the cost of printing and postage incurred by NSBA.

 V. Composition and Authority of All American Saanen Selection Panel
A. Tenure: Three (3) currently licensed ADGA judges appointed annually by the National Saanen Breeders Association All American Chairperson, Only one panel member can be chosen from a family or partnership. Note: Employees and employers are able to serve simultaneously.
B. Authority: The three member panel of judges shall be entrusted with the choosing of the All American Saanen Awards through their placing of the entries. In the event of fraud or incompetence, a unanimous vote by the NSBA Board of Directors can nullify any and all decisions, and either request another decision or dismiss the panel in part or as a whole and re-establish a new panel.
C. At the discretion of the panel in the event that no worthy animal is nominated for an age category, no awards or only one award, either All American or Reserve All American will be made.

 VI. Method of Selecting All American Winners
A. Administered decisions of the panel shall be final, excepting as specified in Section V, clause B.
B. Panel members will not be penalized for conflict of interest situations and shall participate in all placings.
C. The judges will make their placing upon consideration of relevant material
D. The panel will dispatch duplicate notification of their individual placing to the NSBA All American Chairman and current NSBA President (or a current NSBA Member) to ensure accuracy in tabulation.
E. Selection shall be solely on a type basis. At no time shall production be a deciding factor.
F. For each of the age categories, the panel shall select at their option as explained in Section V, Clause C, the All American and Reserve All American Saanens. The panel may at their discretion declare a tie for any award, but is discouraged from doing so. If the tie is for All American, no Reserve shall be awarded. If the tie is for Reserve All American, there shall then be one award for All American and two awards for Reserve All American in that age group.
G. The panel will be requested to reach their decision no later than January 1st of each year.
H. Photos submitted become property of NSBA unless a Stamped Self Addressed Envelope is included in the entry packet for the return of the photos.
I. Commendation beyond routine publication notices should be determined at the discretion of the NSBA Board of Directors.

 VII. Authority of the All American Chairman
A. The All American Chairman shall be a volunteer job held by a current member of NSBA being directly appointed by the President of the National Saanen Breeders Association.
B. Duties of the All American Chairman:
1. See that the application and rules of the program are published annually, preferably in the Summer Issue of the Saanen News Quarterly.
2. Receive and review all applications for compliance with the rules set forth in Sections III and IV above.
3. Prepare all entries for judging and compose judging packets for mailing to the panel of judges chosen for that year.
4. Tally all placings by the panel of judges and concur with the NSBA President on placings.
5. Publish the results of the All American Program and keep an updated scrapbook of the winners.
C. Preparation of entries for judging: The All American chairman shall cover all identification of entries’ name and owner and shall replace it with a code number or name on the ballot. Photos shall be secured to a piece of heavy construction paper and coded for judging by the panel using the code or number on the ballot corresponding.
D. Method to tally placings: There shall only be scores to 10th place regardless of the number of animals in the class. First place shall receive 10 points, 2nd-9 pts, 3rd-8pts., 4th-7pts., 5th-6pts., 6th-5pts., 7th-4pts., 8th-3pts, 9th-2pts, 10th-1pt. Scores will be totaled from each member of the panel and the All American & Reserve All American will be determined in compliance with Section VI, Clause F.
E. The judging panel will be known only to the All American Chairman. Tthe NSBA All American Chairman may not nominate animals to the All American program while they are serving in this office.
F. Names of the winners and identification of the judging panel will be released as soon as the tabulation is completed and verified.
