Total Buck Award Program

 

 LINEAR APPRAISAL

To qualify:
  • 3 animals appraising 85 or higher (can be the buck himself and 2 daughters, 3 daughters from at least 2 dams, or full genetic sister and 2 of the buck’s daughters from 2 dams).
Scoring:½ point for each doe linear trait that meets the ideal point range (21 possible points);2.5 for each buck trait (20 possible points). 

BONUS:

  • 1 point for every positive PTA type on the buck with a reliability of .33 or greater (14)
  • 5 points if Average Final Score on daughters = 82 with reliability of .33 or greater 
PRODUCTION
To qualify:
  • 3 daughters from at least 2 dams earning a mature equivalent of 3000 or greater OR
  • Elite sire listing (top 15% - any year) 
    • Scoring:15 points for meeting the above, Each additional daughter = 5 pts
 
BONUS
  • 10 pt for each positive PTA (MFP$, M, F, P) with reliability .33 or over. (4 @ 10 = 40)
  • 3 points for each documented Top Ten daughter- milk
  • 3 points for each documented Top Ten daughter - component
  • 5 points for each documented 2nd listing Top Ten daughter - milk
  • 5 points for each documented 2nd listing Top Ten daughter – component
Show Wins (Optional) 
  • Buck is CH = 5
  • 3 Qualifying (G)CH daughters from 2 or more different dams
    • CH = 3 points each, max. 3 daughters (9 points)
  • CH Son = 4 points each, max. 4 sons (16 points)
OVERALL BONUS – 
  • Qualified for young sire development list with
    • 5 points for positive 2:1, 
      5 points for positive 1:2 or
  • 10 points for each positive PTI 2:1 or 1:2 ratios.
General Rules
  1. All Purebred and American Saanens will be eligible for these awards. 
  2. Only National Saanen Breeders Association members are eligible for awards.  The person submitting the records must own the buck. A NSBA member need not own progeny. 
  3. To be Submitted with entry: Copy of registration certificate, ADGA Permanent Champion Certificate, DHI individual cow page, PTA from USDA-AIPL website or most current ADGA Performance Volume, Linear appraisal sheet, and photo of the buck.  Also include the full name of the animal with appropriate titles (*M, +B, GCH, etc.), their registration number, and their sire and dam’s information. 
  4. Entries will be accepted with milk record, linear appraisal score, and show wins being achieved in different years.  Special note to be made of buck that achieves all requirements in the same year.  May be awarded posthumously. 
  5. Entry deadline is March 31st of each year.  
  6. Entry fee of $4 per application. 
  7. Two awards may be given each year, Total Buck & Reserve Total Buck; the Total Buck Award Committee will select the awards. 
  8. Bucks are not eligible to win “Total Buck of the Year” more than one year. 
  9. An “All Time High Scoring Buck” will be recognized each year, after the first year. A previous winning sire may apply for the “All Time High Scoring Buck” after receiving bonus points through progeny, or achieving a higher milk record, or a higher appraisal score. 
  10. Results, including all qualifying bucks, will be published in the Saanen News and submitted to the United Caprine News and Dairy Goat Journal for publication.
